Kuon Tao Do & Tai Shing-Pek Kwar Kung Fu

Kung Fu (also known as Gung Fu) is not a single style of martial arts, but a collection of fighting arts encompassing hundreds of different styles from mainland China and Southeast Asia. There are many differences between styles. Hung Gar Kung Fu, for example, emphasizes strength, power, and hand techniques, while Tai Chi Chuan believes in using an opponent's energy against them with the least amount of effort. In addition, there are many schools/sub-styles within each style.

Two (2) systems of Kung Fu are taught at the Samurai Academy, each with a different emphasis in fighting style. Kuon Tao is a fighting style which comes from Indonesia, and relies on strong, low stances and emphasizes strength, power, and speed. While resembling Karate in a number to ways, Kun Tao has a style all its own. The second system taught at the Samurai Academy is Tai Shing-Pek Kwar Kung Fu, a "family" style from Northern China, that was used to train individuals within a family to serve as palace guards. More widely known as "Monkey Kung Fu", students of Tai Shing-Pek Kwar develop coordination, flexibility, and strength while learning a traditional self-defense art.
